Get ready to experience the spectacular beauty of Cape Maclear in Malawi. Your tour will begin from Zaburi Beach which is located in the lake-side village of Mangochi. You will be picked from Zaburi Beach by your Serendib tour guide, who will drive you to Cape Maclear and transfer you by boat to Lake Malawi National Park.

The world’s first freshwater national park and world heritage site, Lake Malawi National Park is known for its clear waters and is surrounded by forested mountains. The park includes a land area of 100 meters (330ft) offshore around the cape, bay, lake and islands. The park is home to a range of tropical fish and is one of the best places in the world to see cichlids – known locally as ‘mbuna’.

The lands of the park also shelter a diversity of wildlife species, birds and vegetation. The most commonly spotted animals include yellow baboons, vervet monkeys, otters and hyraxes, whilst popular bird species that can be seen include fish eagles, cormorants and hamerkops. The park and nearby areas in Mangochi are also home to more elusive wildlife such as greater kudu, bushbuck, zebra, hippo, klipspringer, impala, grysbok, grey duiker, leopard, serval, bush pig and elephants.

Cape Maclear also comprises of cultural and historical sites such as the first Livingstonia mission site which was set up by Scottish missionaries and the iconic ‘Mwala wa Mphini’ – the rock face with numerous natural crisscrossing marks which look like man-made carvings.
